Brian Berry wins coach of the year honor
In addition to having one of his best seasons, CVHS swim team coach Brian Berry has received the honorable award of Coach of the year. For Berry, the award is the icing on the cake.
Over the past five years as head coach of the CVHS swim team, Berry has put in a lot of personal time and effort into the program. With a team that is much bigger than most sports teams at CVHS, it’s hard at times to balance everything.
“It’s a lot of work to coach a small team, let alone a team of nearly 80 athletes, which is how big our team is now,” said Berry.
Certainly, with a pool full of swimmers, it often becomes extremely chaotic and frenzied.
In addition to being the swim’s team head coach, Berry also tries to be a role model for his athletes.
“I try to model positive behavior while encouraging improvements on the athletic end of the sport as well,” said Berry.
Having been on the CVHS swim team himself, Berry understands the amount of hard work and dedication an athlete needs to put into the game in order to do well.
The boys team had the highest finish in CVHS history at North Coast Section this past season.
“That’s something that can’t be boasted by many athletic programs anywhere,” said the proud coach of his team’s accomplishments.
