Beware of sports scam, school warns
Imposters are allegedly posing as Castro Valley High athletes and asking for donations from residents for the Trojans’ athletic department. Athletic Director Andy Popper warns residents not to donate any money if solicited and to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
The imposters have been going door-to-door asking for donations in various neighborhoods throughout Castro Valley. According to Popper, one CVHS teacher fell victim to a “CVHS basketball player” and handed over $20.
Popper makes it clear that no CVHS programs use door-to-door tactics as a source for donations.
“We want the community to know it’s not us,” said Popper. CVHS staff and students use well-publicized fundraising and events to raise money, he said, and any legitimate CVHS athletes will wear an identifying uniform when fundraising.
