Poetry Power: “Hazel eyes”
To kick off National Poetry Month, The Olympian shares a poem by sophomore Lilith Castañeda. “This poem is a reminder that no matter how you feel, you’re special and no matter what you’re going through, it doesn’t make you any less special,” they said.
Hazel eyes
Pupils like the midnight sky,
Illuminated by stars,
Irises contrast resembling a deep ocean,
Enchanted and tantalizing,
Calling many to venture closer,
Your glance speaks 10,000 words,
Words of pain, misery, lust, and mischief,
Hints of deep indulgent chocolate,
So luscious and decadent,
Many cannot afford such a taste,
Subtle notes of forest tones,
So wild yet calm,
Freeing yet dangerous,
A layer of rain coats these eyes,
Eyes as special as these don’t deserve such agony,
Let your storms continue darling,
You’re unlikeness will not be tainted,
The duration of your pain is uncertain,
But I’m certain that your eyes will forever,
be one of a kind.
The word choice and language used here are amazing! Each line paints a vivid image, the flow is smooth, and the message is straightforward and easy to understand. The ending is also very nice, and finishes the poem off with a nice bow. Great work 🙂
