Connecting At Our Football Game
In the midst of so much action, cheerleaders are flying high over heads, a football is spinning across the field, and with the student section rumbling the stands below, it’s easy to get thrown off by a bad smell under the Friday Night Lights. Just as easily however, can you be distracted by a good one.
The pleasant variety of aromas coming from crispy lumpia, fresh horchata, Chinese dumplings, matcha cookies, and more is carried by the cold air inside the Trojan Stadium, drawing students past the concessions stand and to a small booth under the Jumbotron.
Running this tent filled with homemade goods are Jalen Gomez, Katelyn Chang, and Britney Huang, all officers of the popular CVHS club, Cook2Connect.
Cook2Connect club President Michealla Bazan describes the club as “a genuine community that is just as fun as the food we make together,” and she could not be more spot on. As the schools center for all things cultural and edible, Cook2Connect quickly took the top spot as one of the most popular CVHS clubs just two years ago when they held their first meeting in the 2023-2024 school year. They hit the ground running, serving to their members not just a delicious Filipino Dessert, tahoe, but also a handful of interesting history and cultural background to the food as well.
Cook2Connect club secretary Emily Huie has been with the club since its very early days. They explain that their favorite thing about making food with the club is how much it is “expanding my pallet.” Indeed, Cook2Connect, has taken our taste buds around the world, showcasing their cooking skills by bringing students cuisines from Europe, India, Vietnam, Egypt, and more. Their meetings regularly consist of prized games, and fun, tasty ways to learn about different cultures, food and traditions.
They have become every club president’s go-to contact for catering food and baked goods at every event. You will usually find Cook2Connect collaborating with the many cultural clubs on campus, uniting tons of students to mingle, create friendships, and enjoy food together as a family.
