CVHS Bieber fans are outraged over #CutforBieber

Recently, teen celebrity singer Justin Bieber tweeted a picture of himself that was suggestive to him smoking a marijuana joint.  Soon after, the hashtag “#CutforBieber” started trending in the online world.  This was created to encourage Bieber fans, or “Beliebers,” to cut themselves and bring attention to their idol to encourage him to discourage his drug use.  Beliebers would post pictures of their cut-up wrists, with the hashtag in the picture’s description.

“It’s very stupid and unnecessary, and if they were true fans, they wouldn’t go to these levels of extreme, because Justin Bieber wouldn’t approve,” said senior Ashley Perez, a fan of the teen sensation.  Many others also couldn’t believe that this was happening.

“ I never thought girls would go that far to prove their ‘love’ for him,” said junior Michelle Ly.

This brief movement is said to have been started by the online troll group “4chan”.  The public did not react positively.  Celebrities on Twitter, including Miley Cyrus, criticized the hashtag, and urged fans to stop the nonsense.

The whole situation also shed light on a taboo subject: teenage cutting.  Since cutting is such a serious and sensitive subject, leading to many tragic deaths every year, the public disapproved of the media poking fun at it.  Encouraging teenagers to do it also didn’t seem to help.

Representatives of Bieber haven’t commented on the issue, and as time has passed, so has the hype to cut.  The problem seems to have disappeared just as fast as it appeared in the cyber world.  While some demand an answer from Bieber himself, others brush it off and move on with their lives.

“I think he should campaign against cutting now,” said Perez.
