Trojan golfers triumph during winning season

Unbeknownst to most students, CVHS has a golf team, and it’s having a great season. In a March 14 match against Arroyo and San Leandro, the Trojans left the Monarch Bay golf course victorious.

Coach Darrell Lavin, also an eighth grade science teacher at Creekside Middle School, has high expectations for the team’s future.

“We’re having a great season so far, and three out of our four top players are freshmen, so we’ll be good for a while,” he said, watching golf balls fly on the course from his sideline spot. “I’m pretty excited to see where the team goes in the next few years,” he added.

Niccolo Delucchi, Brandon Patterson, Travis Miller, Marcus Young, Kevin Li, and Anthony Boragno are taking the team to new heights this year. So far they have an 8-2 win/loss record overall, and are 4-0 in league play.

According to Patterson, this is the Trojans’ first year with a really strong, competitive team since about 2010. An avid golf player for his whole life, and a varsity player since his freshman year, Patterson says his favorite part of playing for CVHS is the team dynamic.

“We all get along great and play together all year round, in season and out. We have an atmosphere where everyone is there to get better and play golf at the next level, and that’s something really special for a high school golf team,” he said.

In the golf championship composed of fifteen schools competing, Bishop O’Dowd took first place with CVHS proudly taking second.
