Golfers putt to fourth-place finish

Golf for the Trojans may not have been at its ideal peak this past season. For one thing, switching from the Hayward Area Athletic League (HAAL) to the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) may have proved a difficult transition for some.

“We weren’t as strong as I would have liked,” said junior Brian Periquet, captain of the boys varsity golf team.

For boys varsity golf, more challenges had arisen, as around 80 percent of the players this season were new to the team. Secondly, the varsity boys have been coached by a new face, Darrell Lavin, a previous varsity baseball coach.

Periquet, however, was able to make the North Coast Section (NCS) Qualifiers, but overall the team was not. Unfortunately, Periquet didn’t make it to the NCS Championship in Patterson.

Out of all the teams competing in the league, the Trojan team was able to come out in fourth place out of all 12 teams.

This year may not have been the best for boys varsity golf team, probably because of the tough transitions with almost an entirely new team, athletic league, and coach. Next year however, the Trojan golfers are ready to come back out on top.
