Tanjoco makes NCS TOC

CVHS had another amazing season in boys golf this year, as senior Cameron Tanjoco participated in the NCS Tournament of Champions (TOC) held on May 16 at the Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill.

Tanjoco was the only player representing CVHS at the tournament, for the competition to be selected into the NCS TOC is extremely high. The schools that placed were Foothill (first), De La Salle (second), Monte Vista (third), Acalanes (fourth), and San Ramon Valley (fifth). The top three teams will go to the next round.  The top four individuals whose school did not place will go to the third round. Although Tanjoco did not place high, it was still a great honor for Tanjoco and CVHS to make the NCS TOC.

“It was a great experience for me because I reached my goal and went as deep into the tournament as I possibly could,” said Tanjoco. “I did not want my season to end and feel like I didn’t give my all, and even though I didn’t make it to the next round, I have no regrets at all.”

During the tournament, Tanjoco put up a great fight as he made a comeback and tied for 15th place individually out of over 100 players. Tanjoco kept things interesting; the first nine holes, he was at a +5 over par, yet on the back nine holes, he pulled through with a decent +2 over par, leaving him at a +7 to end his spectacular season. Putting the ball onto the fairway was half the battle due to the tight course and weather conditions, yet Tanjoco managed to find a way to pull through.

“It would be sunny for a moment, and suddenly it would rain,” said Tanjoco. “I knew if I wanted to pull through, I had to weather the storm. Yes, pun intended.”

Hopefully next year CVHS can once again make the NCS TOC with more participants and place high enough to go onto the next round. Congratulations Cameron Tanjoco and CVHS golf on an extraordinary season.
