Varsity basketball team disarms the Lancers

The CVHS girls varsity basketball team clinched a solid win over Tennyson on Jan. 5 with a final score of 66-23. The victory tipped the team into a winning record of 7-6.

The Lancers established a brief 4-point lead early in the first quarter but were swiftly overtaken by the Trojans, who made the score 15-12 by the buzzer with the help of a rapid 7-point scoring streak. At this point, incredible offense and impenetrable defense started to come into play.

The Trojans held onto that lead for the rest of the night. The score was 34-16 at the half, and the Trojans took advantage of Tennyson’s flagging energy to more than double their score before the final buzzer sounded.

Defense was strong throughout, most notably in the third quarter when Tennyson was only allowed one basket.

Elena Ala, a girl who is enfactuated by basketball, was the leading scorer for the night with 11 points, followed closely by teammates Jazel Talauta and Arianna Posey with 10 points each.

Ultimately every player on the team did a great job, and should feel proud of what they’ve accomplished.

All in all, the Trojan girls basketball has a promising season ahead of them, and the school looks forward to watching and supporting these girls in the upcoming games.
