Editorial: prom is worth the cost

moneygirlDresses, tuxedos, hair, makeup, and shoes, these, among other dance necessities, don’t come as cheap as they used to in previous years, leaving students to wonder if formal dances are really worth it.

The majority of us at The Olympian believe that this lavish expenditure is meaningful and worth the cost.

We believe that no matter how much one pays, whether it be $50 or $400, the formal dances at CVHS are meaningful to a student’s high school experience. This four-hour event is spent dancing, laughing, and hanging out with those special people one cares about the most, and it is the one night students can get decked out to look their best.

It’s understandable why some people don’t agree to the outrageous prices some students pay for these dances. However, there are always alternatives. There are organizations that donate dresses, such as The Princess Project, outlets to shop for less, and the good old-fashioned way of borrowing a friend’s dress or older brother’s tux.

The amount one pays for his or her special night isn’t what’s going to make it special. One’s attitude makes the night extraordinary. If one walks into prom with positivity, optimism, and an open mind about how the night will go, he or she is guaranteed a great time and won’t have to worry what others think since no one will know how much money was spend.

After all, junior prom and senior ball are great ways for unwinding after all the stress students go through. It’s a fun way to relax and take a break from all schoolwork. So instead of panicking over the prices others spend for prom, keep in mind this is the one night students can party like it’s the end of the world.
