Final escape “Maze Runner: The Death Cure”

“Maze Runner: The Death Cure” is the third and final movie in the trilogy that is based on the dystopian film genre. Starring Dylan O’Brien and Rosa Salazar and directed by Wes Ball, the story follows Thomas and his friend Newt as they attempt to rescue their friend Minho by embarking on a journey to the last city standing on Earth since the flair virus wiped out nearly all of humanity.

With the help of Brenda, Fry Pan and Jorge, Thomas and his friends manage to smuggle themselves into the inner cities but come to realize that their friend is being tortured within a holding facility managed by the organization WICKED. Unable to breach their security and finding no other options, Thomas allies himself with Right Arm (a rebel group trying to overthrow the inner cities) and promises them access into the inner cities if they can smuggle him and his friends into WICKED.

Together they take hostage of Teresa, who was once a friend of Thomas but is now an employee of WICKED after she betrayed him, in order to gain access into the facility. They manage to infiltrate into the building and storm the underground prisons to rescue the abductees, but it is revealed that their friend, Minho is held in the research lab instead. Then everything goes south when the alarms go off and the security comes in with guns blazing.

The “Maze Runner” movies are based on the books written by James Dashner. The series has since sold 10 million copies worldwide.

Dashner, when interviewed about “Death Cure” hitting the theaters replied “I think the third film will match one of my vision for the books, which was to make each book feel extremely different from the others. So, in the third one, you’re gonna see more of WICKED’s environment in terms of urban life. You’re gonna get to see what the cities are like in this ruined world that are still functioning, and I think that’s gonna be a lot of fun … Everything’s gonna be on the table. The survival of the human race is on the line. The third film will be about revolution, and about loyalty being tested between friends. And just some spectacular action.”

Overall the movie is a great watch if you’re looking for a movie packed with action and twists. However to a more critical watcher this movie may seem a bit cliche, especially with the repetitive teen dystopian genre that has been trending recently. The acting was superb and the set design was extremely well done.
